Gertrude L. Benedix
1934 – 2009
AUGUSTA — Gertrude L. “Trudy” Benedix, 75, of Litchfield and Cocoa Beach, Fla., died unexpectedly Wednesday, Aug. 25, at the MaineGeneral Medical Center.
She was born in Lewiston, June 8, 1934, a daughter of Alcide and Muguette Levasseur Guay.
Trudy graduated from Stephens High School in Rumford in 1953. The following December, she married her high school sweetheart, Jim and they moved to California for him to serve in the Navy. They returned to New England with their first child while Jim attended Bryant University and she earned her “Ph.T.” (Putting Husband Through).
They settled back in Maine to raise their six children and establish Benedix Enterprises. With their children now grown, she and her husband have enjoyed spending time with their large family and many friends at their cottage in Maine during the summer and in Cocoa Beach, Fla., during the colder months.
She loved to hear the loons calling and laughter of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren welcoming her home to her cottage each spring. She was greatly loved by all who had the privilege to know her, especially her loving husband. She will be truly missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, James H. Benedix Sr. of Cocoa Beach, Fla., and Litchfield; six children, Catherine McDevitt and husband, Randy Sr. of West Gardiner, David Benedix and wife, Shannon, of Kennebunk, Debra Grover and husband, Steven, of Monmouth, James Benedix Jr . and wife, Beth, of Greencastle, Ind., Kevin Benedix and wife, Colleen, of Andover, Mass., and Brenda Whitley and husband, Paul Jr., of Gardiner; brother, Roland Guay of Park Ridge, Ill.; sister, Claudia Marcellino of Mexico; 13 grandchildren, Randy McDevitt Jr., Lisa Danis, Kate Cyr, Emily Grover, Joseph Benedix, Max Grover, Christian Benedix, Braeden Benedix, Bryant Whitley, Jacob Whitley, Connor Whitley, Campbell Benedix and Toby Benedix; five great-grandchildren, Jace and Brynn Danis, Taylor, Cameron and Logan McDevitt; several nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends.
She was predeceased by her brothers and sisters, Paul Guay, Gabrielle Gagnon, Vivian Joler and Reginald Guay.
