NEW SHARON — A St. Albans logger remained in critical condition at a Lewiston hospital Wednesday, a day after he was pinned between a skidder and a load of logs off Jersey Avenue.

Wayne Knight, 65, was flown to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston on Tuesday night and admitted to the intensive care unit, a nursing supervisor said.

Knight was injured at about 2 p.m. while unhooking a hitch of logs from the idling skidder, which rolled back on him, Fire Chief Jeff Brackett said. Knight was pinned in the pelvis area for about three hours before help arrived.

Jeff Harris of New Sharon said he heard Knight’s calls and found the logger. He turned the steering wheel of the skidder to free Knight.

New Sharon firefighters were called to the scene, along with ambulance crews.
