MONMOUTH, Maine (AP) – A judge has ordered a Monmouth man who’s charged with murdering his 80-year-old mother to undergo psychiatric and psychological evaluations.
Forty-three-year-old Kenneth McDonald made his initial court appearance in Waterville District Court on Wednesday. Judge Charles Dow ordered the evaluations and that McDonald be held in jail pending a bail hearing. No plea was entered.
The Kennebec Journal in Augusta says state police filed an affidavit which says Janice McDonald died of multiple sharp force trauma. It says knives covered with what appeared to be blood were found in the kitchen and bathroom sink.
Janice McDonald’s body was found in her home by relatives Monday afternoon.
