LISBON — The Lisbon School Department honored community partners and volunteers for their assistance during the 2008-2009 school year recently in the Lisbon Community School cafetorium.

Administrators and staff from Lisbon Community School, Philip W. Sugg Middle School and Lisbon High School combined to host the event. Community Resource Coordinator Monica Millhime and co-host Marcia Bickford welcomed more than 200 volunteers, staff and family members.

“Over the last five years, the number of hours by our volunteers has grown 309 percent,” said Millhime. “Last year, the combined efforts of 763 adult and junior volunteers, along with more than 60 community partners, Lisbon school teachers and students received 15,546 hours of volunteer service.” 

Thirty-eight adult volunteers received the National Presidential Volunteer Service Award, 28 junior volunteers were recognized in the President’s Circle for Volunteering and 12 students received certificates for their hours of service. 

Adult volunteers receiving the gold award for more than 500 hours: Kathi Yergin, 665; Trisha Thebeau, 645; Mark Tupper, 600; Robin Tupper, 600; Jonathan Carsley, 527; Marilyn Curtis, 514.

Silver awards for 250 to 499 hours: Robin Roy, 447; Karen Whitney, 376; Donna Rimiller, 329; Amy Austin, 283; Monica Millhime, 265; Pamela Shane, 254.

LCS and PWS Junior Volunteer Presidential gold awards for more than100 hours went to Paula Caron, 160; Charles Roy, 146; Rachel Roy, 144; Spenser Thebeau, 118; Jack Caron, 110; Emma Randall, 110; Connor Craig, 109; Abigail Curtis, 102; and Erika Gardner, 101.

Brian Daly received an award as the JA Adviser award for the year. Daly assisted with three classrooms in the Junior Achievement Program.
