FARMINGTON — A forestry workshop on “Managing for Wildlife” will be held from noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, at the University of Maine Cooperative Extension Office, 138 Pleasant St.
The workshop will teach the basic elements of wildlife habitat and how to recognize habitat elements in a woodlot. In addition, USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service financial assistance available for planning and managing a forest for wildlife will be explained.
The session will include an indoor and outdoor discussion on the diversity of wildlife in the forest as well as key wildlife requirements needed. Displays and written material will also be available from various state and federal agencies.
The field tour will be held at two close-by town-owned properties, Flint and Bonney Woods. Appropriate attire is recommended for a walk in the woods.
Space is limited. An early registration fee of $10 is due by Tuesday, Sept. 8, to Franklin County Soil and Water Conservation District, 107 Park St., Farmington, ME 04938. After Sept. 8, the registration fee will increase to $12.50 and at the door the fee will be $15.
