LEWISTON — The next gathering of La Rencontre will take place on Friday, Sept. 4, at the Franco-American Heritage Center, 46 Cedar St. Lunch will begin at 11:30 a.m., with lobster rolls or chicken
salad rolls, pickles, chips, dessert and beverage. The cost is $7 each person. The goal of the event is to speak only French for a two-hour period. Approximately 250 people attend each gathering.

The guest performer will be Jeannie Martin singing French traditional songs. Martin has been a professional singer since 1966 starting with the Travelers and remaining with the group until 2006, when they retired. She has performed at many Franco-American
festivals with the C’est Si Bon Band and the Travelers. In 1988, she
recorded a country album called “Just The Way I Am” which was released
nationally. She was the first woman in Maine to
be on the national show “You Can Be A Star.”

Martin recently appeared at the “Echoes In Time” concert and performed with the L/A Ladies on
the Fourth of July. She will be accompanied by Lionel Meservier who is involved at the center and has played with numerous music groups including the C’est Si Bon Orchestra, Just Us Entertainers and La Famille LeBlanc. He is a volunteer and stage manager at the Franco-American Heritage Center.

All are invited to attend and reservations must be made in advance by calling Claudette at 786-6936 or the center at 689-2000.
