Duck race, sale 

OXFORD — A duck race and community yard sale will take place on Saturday, Sept. 12, at the Oxford Station House Community Center, sponsored by the Oxford Recreation Department. The yard sale will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. under the ice skating rink and the race will take place at 2 p.m. on the river next to the center.

Duck tickets are on sale at the Oxford Town Office, Edo’s, Polly’s, Crestholm Farm Stand, Crystal Spring Farm and
from recreation members for $5 each. Members will sell tickets throughout the day of the event until 1:30. Food will be available, including hot dogs, popcorn, drinks, coffee and desserts.

Those wishing may reserve a table for the yard sale for $10 by calling Pam Lovely at 539-4563.

Nature club trip

OXFORD — The Twin Town Nature Club will meet at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8, in the Wal-Mart parking lot, south side, to car pool to the Maine Audubon Society at Gilsland Farm, Falmouth. Those attending should bring a picnic; visitors are welcome. For more information, call John Crumpton at 539-2902.

Nature craft
 

WEST PARIS — A Nature Smart craft make-and-take program will be offered from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 16, at the First Universalist Church. The craft will be making a sea shell wind chime. Supplies will be provided, but participants may bring their own shells. The program is open to all ages free. Making a mosaic out of supplies from nature will be offered on Sept. 30.

Bottle drive 

SUMNER — Volunteers will go door to door on Saturday morning, Sept. 12, to pick up returnable bottles and cans for the Sumner Scholarship Fund. Bagged cans and bottles may be placed next to the mailbox for pick up or delivered to Skippy’s Bottle Drop behind the Buckfield Mall and designated for the scholarship fund. Bottles can also be left at the Sumner Town Office during office hours until Sept. 30. Free labeled bags are available at the Sumner Town Office. For more information, call Arlene at 388-2276.  

Society elects

WOODSTOCK — The Woodstock Historical Society elected officers at the August picnic at the home of Paul and Vicki Billings, Oxford. They are: president, Olive Risko; vice president, Annella Burnham; secretary, Vicki Billings; treasurer, Paul Billings; trustee, Gil Whitman; and curator, Larry Billings.

 Bridge results

NORWAY — Oxford Hills Duplicate Bridge Club met Aug. 28 in the Fare Share
Building, Main Street, when a six-table Howell movement was played.

Finishing first in flight A were Pete Cummings and Dick Allen; second, Jim Dickens and Les Buzzell; third, Marilyn and Dick Canton, who also were first in flight B. Finishing second in flight B were Cindy and Bob Kirchherr; third, Penny and Bob Thomas.
