RUMFORD — The Rumford Park and Recreation Commission will present a variety of activities this summer.
“Tour the Park Days” will be held Wednesdays, July 8, 15, 22, and Aug. 5 and 19 from 9 to 11 a.m., 1 to 3 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. For more information, call 364-7758. Bring walking shoes and learn what the Park and Recreation Department has to offer. Participants will walk about a mile on this tour.
Check out equipment for free at Hosmer Field Park office (red building) from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday starting Monday, July 6.
The following equipment will be available for check out: baseball gloves, bats and balls, football, Frisbee golf disks, skateboard and pads, basketball, soccer balls, tennis rackets and balls, horseshoes and other assorted equipment. Identification will be required at the time of checkout.
Park areas open to the public include the tennis courts, basketball courts, skateboard park, soccer field, football field, Frisbee golf, baseball fields, walking trails, picnic area, horseshoe pits, hockey rink and practice soccer field. The parks close at sunset.
Learn about skateboarding at the new skateboard park. The park offers a quarter pipe, grind rails, picnic table, launch ramps, piano bank ramp and skate bench.
Staff will offer beginner and intermediate classes covering proper equipment use and techniques from 9 a.m. to noon Monday and Friday starting July 6.
Those interested should sign up at the Park and Recreation Department at Hosmer Field. All ages are welcome. Call 364-7758 for information.
The summer program for sixth, seventh and eighth graders will include basics about track and field events, kicking football extra point and punting, how to play horseshoes and skateboarding from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday and Thursday starting July 7.
