D. A. Wilson and Co. employee Dean Gowell of Bryant Pond welds a metal clip onto the end of one of four steel I-beams on Tuesday afternoon while working on the $134,545 Branch Road bridge replacement over Branch Brook in Newry. Wooden planks behind Gowell will be attached to the clips to anchor a laminated wood expansion joint to keep dirt away from the new 16-foot-wide-by-40-foot-long bridge. The Bethel company built the one-lane bridge at left for $16,500 to allow residents access during the project, which began the first week of August and is expected to be completed by Oct. 16 or earlier.
