I have lived in Auburn my entire life and have sent four children through the Auburn school system. I have also had a day care business for 14 years, so I feel I have a lot of insight regarding the Auburn School Department.

We are fortunate to have many wonderful educators in Auburn, and it is unfair to ask them to give up health insurance for teachers’ spouses and other family members. Teachers are underpaid as it is. The least the public can do is provide them with adequate healthcare.

What is the incentive for good educators to teach in Auburn?

If the provision goes through to cut coverage for spouses and other family members, I suspect we will be losing many excellent teachers.

It’s not fair to the teachers and, more important, it’s not fair to the children.

The city should keep good educators in Auburn and do what’s fair for them. Do not make these educators work 30 miles away to have their job security and more pay.

Enough is enough. Whoever came up with the idea to cut benefits should try decaf coffee to clear his or her brain.
