LEWISTON — The Most Rev. Richard J. Malone, bishop of Portland, will host the annual Bishop’s Reception to benefit Guest House, a treatment center for Catholic clergy and religious facing addiction to alcohol or other substances, on Friday, Oct. 2. The Guest House counts 30 Maine clergy and men and women religious among its living alumni.
The event will begin with 6 p.m. Mass at the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, celebrated by Malone. Following the Mass, at 7 p.m., there will be a reception, a gourmet dinner prepared by culinary students at The Green Ladle and a silent auction. The dinner will be held at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 150 East Ave.
Portland area singer/songwriter Cassi Gray, whose style is a melding of many jazz, Latin and folk influences, will provide music. She performs in the Portland area as a solo artist, and throughout Southern Maine with her jazz trio.
For more than 50 years, the Diocese of Portland has been able to refer Maine priests suffering or struggling with addiction to Guest House for treatment.
