RUMFORD — The Rumford Heart Walk boasts 14 teams for Sunday, Sept. 27, when local organizations will gather for the 2009 walk at Hosmer Field.

Bangor Savings Bank, Becky’s Heart Beats, Community Energy, Dixfield Discount Fuel, Franklin Savings Bank, Hannaford, Marden’s, Med-Care, Mountain View Eyecare, Oxford Federal Credit Union, River Valley Healthy Communities Coalition, Rumford Hospital and Victorian Villa are expected to collectively bring about 200 walkers to the field to choose from one-mile, two-mile or four-mile walk routes. Individuals are also welcome to walk.

Many people brought their dogs along last year, and Mindy Worthley’s top fundraising dog, Luka, has challenged other four-footers to a contest to see which pet can raise the most money. Walkers are encouraged to pick up collection envelopes for their pets and ask the pets of friends and family to pledge to support the canine, or feline, walker.

Collection envelopes can be picked up from any team captain or from community relations at Rumford Hospital by calling 369-1143.

There will be an informational meeting for team captains and volunteers at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 16, in Conference Room A on the ground floor of Rumford Hospital.
