FARMINGTON — Registrations for the Farmington Recreation Department’s Instructional Soccer League and Prep Soccer Program will take place Sept. 8 to 10.

The department, located at the Community Building on Middle Street, will be open until 6 p.m. on those days to accept registrations.

The 30th season of Instructional Soccer League under the direction of Joel Smith is for boys and girls in grades 1-6. The program teaches the fundamentals, helps refine playing skills, improves fitness levels of players and teaches them the rules and basic concepts of the sport of soccer.

Participants are separated into two divisions structured by school grade to promote balanced competition and equal play opportunity.

Drills for all players begin on Sunday, Sept. 13, and the regular season ends on Oct. 18.

A registration fee of $20 is charged to all players. There is also a $5 non-resident fee charged to participants who do not reside in Farmington.

The 17th season of the Prep Soccer Program begins for boys and girls that are kindergarten students ages 5 and 6.

This non-competitive program introduced 48 youngsters last year to the sport of soccer in a pressure-free atmosphere. Held in the outfield of the Little League Park at Hippach Field, this six-week program concentrates solely on teaching the elementary skills of soccer.

Children will learn about the sport and practice fundamentals through games, simple drills and exercises and short pick-up scrimmages.

A single group of players will meet at 12:30 p.m. each Sunday for practices under the guidance of Ashley Tetreault, a senior at UMF. Practices begin on Sunday, Sept. 13, and end on Oct. 18.

The registration fee is also $20 for Prep Soccer with a $5 non-resident fee charged.

Registration forms are available for both programs at the Recreation Department office. No registrations will be taken over the phone but for more information, call 778-3464 or 778-3444.
