 AUBURN — Mechanics Savings Bank recently awarded three $1,000 Banking on the Future Scholarships to Oak Hill High School graduates Sonya M. Catlin, Margaret A. O’Connell and Ambyr K. Provost.

Catlin, of Wales, is the daughter of Lawrence and Nancy Catlin. A high honor student and a member of the senior class top ten at Oak Hill, Catlin received several Raider Recognition academic excellence awards and was a member of the Academic Advocate. Catlin served as a volunteer for the Big Brothers/Big Sisters Program as well as at Sabattus Elementary School. She plans to attend the University of Maine at Farmington to pursue a bachelor’s degree in elementary education.

O’Connell, of Wales, is the daughter of Michelle and Thomas O’Connell. She was a member of the National Honor Society, Girls State, Senior Finance Committee, leadership team and Future Business Leaders of America, also serving as its State Secretary. In addition, she was a member of the varsity soccer team and competition cheering. O’Connell volunteered for Oak Hill Legislative Assembly community service projects, Oak Hill summer soccer camp, Lewiston Cheer Classic, several Red Cross blood drives and the Abused Women’s Advocacy Project. She will attend Thomas College to major in business and plans to pursue a career in the medical field.

Provost, of Sabattus, is the daughter of Nancy and Gregoire Provost. President of the National Honor Society and a member of the senior class top ten, Provost received second place in the 2009 Future Business Leaders of America State Conference “Gold Seal Award.” Provost was a member of Oak Hill’s Spanish Club, math team, Future Business Leaders of America and varsity basketball, soccer, tennis and cheering teams. Provost volunteered for the recreation club, youth soccer, youth basketball, vacation Bible School, Boosters Club, and Oak Hill Legislative Assembly community service activities. Provost will attend Thomas College to pursue a master’s degree in public accounting.

For more than 20 years, Mechanics Savings Bank has provided scholarships to assist high school graduates with their higher education goals. With a focus on demonstrated community service, the Banking on the Future Scholarship program will award $1,000 to 17 high school graduates at nine area high schools this year.
