Three teen-aged boys risked the swirling waters below a section of the Barker Mill dam on the Little Androscoggin River in Auburn late yesterday afternoon to rescue a ten-year-old Lewiston lad who was badly injured when swept through a concrete sluice-way in the dam and over a 15-foot drop to the churning waters of a rock-studded cove.

Risking their own lives to carry the injured youngster to safety were Jimmy Hudson, 13, his brother, Dick, 15, and Lionel Lavoie, 15.

SABATTUS — Residents here are concerned about coyotes, which are thought to be attacking farm animals.

Evelyn Waterman, mother of David Waterman who shot a coy dog near Routes 126 and 197 earlier this week, said that the coyotes have begun to frequent their farm’s fields daily and deer sightings are on the decline.

Area residents have said that some of the animals are so bold as to have appeared on their lawns. Farmers in the area have also reported cows with their tails gnawed off, presumably by the coy dogs.
