FARMINGDALE — Tyler Gates and Eric Bolduc teamed up to produce a pair of goals in the first half as Dirigo did away with Hall-Dale, 3-1, in a boys’ soccer opener Saturday.
Gates punched in both goals and Bolduc earned both assists in the first half. In the second half, the Bulldogs got one on the board when James McCullum scored on a Zach Plummer feed.
Not to be outdone, Bolduc got his turn to score on cross from teammate Cliff Turner to give the Cougars a two-goal lead.
Wiscasset 3, Livermore Falls 0
WISCASSET – Livermore Falls goalie Willie Brown made many critical saves in the first half to keep the season opener from getting out of hand, but Wiscasset collected a 3-0 victory in MVC boys’ soccer action Saturday.
Cody Verrill assisted on all three of the Redskins (1-0) goals, scored by John McLeod, Ashton Benn and Cody Griffin. Wiscasset dominated on offense from start to end.
Brown made 19 saves for the Andies (0-1), while Mason Brewer turned back seven shots to earn the win in net for Wiscasset.
St. Dom’s 8, Jay 0
JAY – Saint Dom’s made good use of a cool and sunny afternoon by sailing to an 8-0 victory over Jay in their MVC season opener.
The Saints jumped out to a 5-0 halftime lead. Will Desmairis and Alex Parker contributed a pair of goals each. Saint Dom’s executed a fine passing game as six different players scored. Trevar Haefele, Garrett Darnell, Cam Hainey and Bobby St.Hilaire posted a goal each.
Isaac Couture made 11 saves in goal for the Tigers, while Nick Brigham deflected a pair to notch the win.
Football
Cape Elizabeth 32, Poland 0
POLAND – Tom Foden scored three touchdowns to power Cape Elizabeth to a 32-0 victory over Poland in a season-opening contest in football action Saturday afternoon.
The Knights (0-1) fumbled on the first play from scrimmage and failed to put together any serious offense, recording 160 yards of rushing and 17 yards passing.
The Capers (1-0) found the end zone three times in the first quarter and logged a touchdown in each of the second and third quarters. Foden’s three touchdown runs accounted for 95 yards of Cape Elizabeth’s offense.
Gray-New Gloucester 28, Fryeburg 14
FRYEBURG — Taylor Valente rushed for 185 yardsand four touchdowns to lead Gray-New Gloucester to a 28-14 victory over Fryeburg in a Campbell Conference Class B season opener.
Girls’ soccer
Leavitt 3, Oak Hill 2
WALES – Jenna Cote scored the game-winning goal on a header as Leavitt notched a 3-2 season opening win over Oak Hill in girls’ soccer action Saturday.
The Hornets (1-0) had to bounce back from a one-goal deficit on two ocassions, but Cote put Leavitt on top for the first time at the 14:31 mark of the second half and held one for the win. Sarah Frost netted the second game-tying goal at 19:21 for Leavitt.
Marrissa Caskin beat the keeper at 30:15 in the opening frame and scored off a corner at 5:17 to put the Raiders up 2-1 at the half.
Maggie Sabine made 14 saves for Oak Hill, while Danielle Dubois earned the win in goal for Leavitt.
Field hockey
Oxford Hills 2, Brunswick 1
BRUNSWICK – Goalie Mariah Kimball made a key save on a penalty corner late in the game to help preserve Oxford Hills’ 2-1 season-opening field hockey triumph over Brunswick on Saturday.
The Vikings built a 1-0 halftime lead on Ebony Mills’ goal off a feed from Hannah Warren. Ashley West gave Oxford Hills a 2-0 advantage before Ann Kelly scored Brunswick’s lone goal.
Kimball finished with six saves for the victory.
