Ruth Henrich Craigin
1916 – 2009

WATERVILLE — Ruth Henrich Craigin, 92, died peacefully on Friday, Sept. 4, at Lakewood Continuing Care Center in Waterville.

Ruth was born in Plainville, Mass. She was the oldest child of Christian and Florence (Brasser) Henrich and a sister to Irving Henrich and his wife Jean (Frosty) Henrich.

She attended the University of New Hampshire, where she met her husband Karl F. Craigin. They married on New Year’s Day in 1939 and lived in Putney, Vt. , Chicago, Ill. and Flushing, N.Y., before settling in Westwood, Mass., to raise a family.

Ruth was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and enjoyed spending time with her family. She took pleasure in being a Girl Scout leader to her two daughters’ troops. Ruth’s hobbies included knitting, gardening, skiing, camping, snowmobiling and boating.

She enjoyed traveling worldwide with her husband, Karl, who was a captain for American Airlines.Ruth and Karl retired to Straton, Maine, in 1973, and enjoyed the friendship and support they found there.

Surviving are three children, daughter, Jean Wright and her husband, Robert, a son, Robert Craigin, and a daughter, Christine Hamlin and her husband, David; six grandchildren, Christopher and Benjamin Wright, Alisa McDonald, Andrea Boulette and her husband, Jamie, Jessica Hamlin, and Katie Higgins and her husband, Dan; five great-grandchildren, U.S. Marine Crpl. Christopher Duffy, Devin McDonald, Corey Foy, Mallory McDonald, and Zoe Higgins; two nieces, Jan Cronin and Chris Holmes, and a nephew, Steve Henrich and their families.

Ruth was predeceased by her parents; and her brother and his wife.
