Merlene M. Gallant
1931 – 2009
LEWISTON — Merlene M. Gallant, 78, of Main Street, Roxbury, died unexpectedly Friday, Sept. 4, at Central Maine Medical Center.
She was born in Mexico, Jan. 21, 1931, a daughter of Joseph and Diana (Marchand) Binette. She was educated in Mexico schools and was a graduate of Mexico High School, Class of 1947.
She married Leo J. Gallant on Sept. 23, 1950, in Rumford, and together they celebrated 59 years of marriage and owned and operated Gallants Furniture with their son, David, for the past 33 years. She enjoyed her trips to North Port, Fla., for the past 20 winters, but most of all she loved spending time with her grandchildren, Evan and Nick.
Surviving are her husband, Leo J. Gallant of Roxbury; a son, David J. Gallant and fiancée, Elizabeth Donahue, of Roxbury Pond; a daughter, Joyce M. Walsh and husband, Patrick, of Roxbury; sisters-in-law, Doris Jenson of Sanford, Esther McPhee and husband, Joseph, of Rumford, Ann Cronin and husband, William, of East Kingston, N.H., and Lois Binette of Peru; brothers-in-law, Ivan Gallant and wife, Irene, of Rumford and Louis Gallant and wife, Sandra, of Wilton; two grandchildren, Evan L. Walsh of Portland and Nicholas D. Gallant of Roxbury; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents; a sister, Fay MacDonald; and a brother, Marvin Binette.
