PARIS — A father and son pleaded not guilty Wednesday to charges they assaulted a state trooper during a brawl at their home in Denmark last June.

Robert Clyde Foster, 45, and Robert Clarence Foster, 26, of Cygnet Drive in Denmark, were arraigned in Oxford County Superior Court before Justice Andrew Horton. The two are charged with assault on an officer, obstructing government administration, refusing to submit to arrest, disorderly conduct and criminal threatening.

The two also pleaded not guilty to charges of marijuana cultivation and violation of conditions of release.

According to a report by Trooper Dan Hanson of the Maine State Police, he and Trooper Christopher Farley were called to the home shortly after midnight on June 25. Hanson said a neighbor reported that he and the older Foster had a dispute over property lines, and that Foster was threatening him.

Hanson warned both of the Fosters for disorderly conduct after determining that they were intoxicated, and arrested the younger Foster on a charge of disorderly conduct after he shouted outside the house after the warning. Hanson said the older Foster confronted him about the arrest and began shoving and threatening him.

Hanson said the younger Foster was able to get his handcuffs to the front of his body, and both men continued to order him off the property, threaten him and try to take his baton. Hanson said he was kicked in the chest by the older Foster, and the younger Foster tried to grab Farley’s gun when he showed up as backup. Hanson said the two men complied with the arrest when Deputy Josh Wyman of the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office drew a Taser gun on them.

Hanson was treated for a minor wrist injury at Stephens Memorial Hospital in Norway, and the older Foster was taken to Bridgton Hospital after complaining of hip pain.

The other charges stem from a search of the house June 26, the day the men were released from jail. A police report stated that a marijuana plant, drug paraphernalia and firearms were found in the house in violation of the bail conditions.
