NORTH ANSON – Katie Buschmann posted a pair of goals as Mt. Abram delivered a 5-2 victory over Carrabec in MVC girls’ soccer action Wednesday.

The Roadrunners (1-1) controlled the offensive momentum, improving on a 2-1 halftime lead with three goals in the second half. Helen Wililams, Molly McCafferty and Sadie James contributed goals in the winning effort.

Becca Bergeron and Carissa Booker scored a goal each for the Cobras (1-2).

Goalie Marissa Murray made six saves for Carrabec, while Tori Beane repelled four to earn the win for Mt. Abram.

Marancook 3, Leavitt 2

READFIELD – Sophomore center-midfielder Hannah Clough scored the eventual game-winning goal to lift Maranacook to a 3-2 victory over Leavitt in girls’ soccer action.

The Black Bears (1-0-1) roared to a 3-1 halftime lead behind a pair of goals from Kara Witherill and Clough’s eventual game-winner.

The Hornets (1-1) closed the gap to one goal in the second half on an unassisted tally from Bri Hammond, but that was all the scoring either team would secure in the frame. Kendra Ray notched Leavitt’s first goal of the game in the opening half.

Danielle DuBois made 12 saves for Leavitt, while Katie Smith turned back four and Kristina Kelly prevented five for Maranacook in their first win of the season.

Lisbon 2, Wiscasset 0

WISCASSET – Ashley Beaulieu dropped in a goal in each half as Lisbon dropped Wiscasset with a 2-0 shutout in a girls’ soccer game Wednesday.

Kate Gamache and Kayla Angelico each earned assists for the undefeated Greyhounds (3-0). Lisbon’s defense kept the Redskins quiet for the entire game, with Gabby Ouellette, Ashley Fournier, Amber Cloutier and Renee Moore making sure Wiscasset didn’t score a goal.

Lisbon goalie Kerstyn Ramich made eight saves to preserve her shutout, and the Greyhounds outshot the Redskins, 16-7.

Oak Hill 0, Gardiner 0

WALES – Despite several good attempts to reach the net, Oak Hill and Gardiner played to a 0-0 deadlock Wednesday in KVAC girls’ soccer action.

The Raiders (0-1-1) had a 14-12 advantage in shots on goals, but fell short of scoring.

Veteran keeper Maggie Sabine made 12 saves to presrve the tie. Jenn Gay handled netkeeping duties for the Bulldogs (0-0-2), turning back all 14 shots fired in her direction. 

Winthrop 5, Monmouth 2

MONMOUTH – Elaine Theriault netted three goals to lead Winthrop to a 5-2 victory over Monmouth in girls’ soccer.

Karen Rice and Grace Burnett also tallied for the Ramblers (1-1) to complete the scoring. Erin Belanger made 12 saves to notch the win.

Danielle Dumann and Chelsea Arsenault each scored a goal for the Mustangs (0-2). Kelsie Hilton and Adrana Gomez combined for 13 saves in net for Monmouth.

Mountain Valley 3, Dirigo 2

RUMFORD – Sissell Jakobsen found the net with three minutes left in regulation to lift Mountain Valley to a 3-2 victory over Dirigo.

Chrissy Briggs and Kate Thorne also tallied for the Falcons (2-0-1) to complete the scoring. Kaitlin Armstrong turned back 16 shots in net to record the win.

Emily Chase scored both goals for the Cougars (1-2), while Kym Dolloff made 17 saves between the posts. 

Field hockey

Telstar 2, Jay 0

JAY – T.J. Cowin netted one goal in each half Wednesday as Telstar coasted to a 2-0 victory over Jay in a MVC field hockey game Wednesday.

Amanda Wiley and Kayla Merrill contributed for the Rebels (2-0) with assists, while Sam Tibbetts needed only one save to notch the shutout.

Ashlee Quirrion turned aside 12 shots between the posts for Jay (1-2).

Lisbon 6, Boothbay 1

LISBON – Lindsey Whitney scored a pair of goals on feeds from Ali Fitzgerald to put the icing on a 6-1 Lisbon victory over Boothbay in an MVC field hockey game Wednesday.

The Greyhounds (1-2) jumped out to a 2-1 lead on goals from Crystal Ingerson and Bailey Madore, before the Seahawks (0-2) managed a breakaway tally from Lindsey Marden.

Lisbon executed three unanswered goals in the second half.

Goalie Bri Moore made five saves in net for Lisbon to notch her first win of the season.
