Ronald A. Hodgkins
1928 – 2009
RUMFORD — Ronald Alfred Hodgkins, 81, of Roxbury, died Tuesday, Sept. 8, at the Rumford Hospital with his wife and family by his side.
He was born in Roxbury, April 4, 1928, a son of Alphonso and Valeda (Thibodeau) Hodgkins, and graduated from Mexico High School.
He served as a seaman first class in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1946 to 1948.
He was a mill worker and retired from Boise Cascade Paper Co. in Rumford as a foreman in the color plant after working there for more than 40 years. He also worked with his father logging and owned his own logging business for many years.
He was a member of the Napoleon Ouellette Post 24, American Legion, Rumford Maine Lodge 862, B.P.O.E., and LeParesseux Snowshoe Club.
He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing, and especially loved to fly. He also loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was married in Roxbury, Nov. 15, 2008, to the former Nina L. Rollins, who survives of Roxbury.

Myers, Fla., and Robert Hodgkins and companion, Sandra Lavertu, of Mexico; a step-son, Michael Smith of Brunswick; daughters, Barbara Jane Hodgkins of Peru and Rachel Desroches and husband, Matthew, of Mexico; grandchildren, Jerry Hodgkins and wife, Kellijo, of Rumford, Jennifer Hodgkins and companion, Adam Carrier, of Carthage, Jerry Lee Hodgkins and companion, Brandi Rabara, of Ft. Myers, Fla., Justin Hodgkins of Ft. Myers, Fla., Jeffrey Hodgkins of Peru, Buddy Smith of Brunswick, and Dylan, Lindsey and Natalie Desroches of Mexico; great-grandchildren, Rebecca Hodgkins and Emily Jamison of Carthage; brothers, Robert Hodgkins and wife, Hazel, of Roxbury, Gilbert “Gibby” Hodgkins and companion, Donna Webber, of Roxbury, and Garey Hodgkins and wife, Gaye, of Jackman; sisters, Irene Leighton of Rumford, Rosamay Marston of Roxbury, Leona White of Rumford, Annette Perry and husband, Ernest, of Tucson, Ariz., and Phyllis Harlow and husband, Thomas, of Roxbury; sisters-in law, Doris Hodgkins of Roxbury and Zena Hodgkins of Rumford; a brother-in-law, James Touchette of Roxbury.
He was predeceased by brothers, Albert, Roger and Alphonso “Fonso” Hodgkins; and sisters, Arlene Baldwin and Lorraine Touchette.
