As a current, full-time student attending Central Maine Community College, I have noticed how many college students end up dropping out simply because they can’t afford it.
With college tuition and fees ranging anywhere from $1,500 to $60,000 per year, a simple yet easy getaway is to simply choose not to go to college, to work at a local restaurant or corner store.
With today’s economic recession, there are two simple choices for high school graduates: They either go to a job where they will be making money, possibly dead-end but having no debt; or become full-time college students with seemingly endless debt, increasing student loan rates, but years down the road have a dependable, high-paying job.
Unless born into a wealthy family or winning the lottery, it’s virtually impossible for students to pay for college themselves without being in debt for the rest of their lives.
