PARIS — Paris Public Library’s nine-week Summer Reading Challenge saw 75 children taking part. Total hours of reading were logged in at 2,611, far exceeding last year’s summer total of 1,500 hours.
Children reading the most hours received $25 gift certificates: Norliyana Menses, 201 hours 20 minutes; Sophrinia Smith, 184 hours 54 minutes; Dakota Warren, 119 hours; Zackery Wilson, 109 hours 33 minutes; and Cassandra McCalister, 92 hours 4 minutes.
Thirty children read 32 hours or more and earned $10 gift certificates. Other prizes included $5 gift certificates and eco-friendly book bags, representing Paris Public Children’s Library’s summer theme, “Children Making a Difference.” Bonus prizes or movie passes were given to all children who participated as an extra reward for contributing to the group goal of surpassing last year’s summer reading hours.
Children who have not picked their prizes are invited to do so.
