FARMINGTON — Sexual Assault Victims Emergency Services (SAVES) Inc. will host two support groups this fall, along with a new drop-in group designed for the University of Maine at Farmington community. All three groups will be facilitated by Aimee Cecile, M.S.W., a longtime SAVES supporter.

“These groups are one of the most important services we offer,” said Judy Rawlings, SAVES’ executive director. “The safe space that can be created within a support or drop-in group can allow room for tremendous growth, healing and processing.”

Support groups will run on Tuesdays, Sept. 29 through Dec. 15. Among the range of groups offered this fall is Expressive Arts, which focuses on providing space for an individual to explore their experiences through the creation of various types of art, ranging from painting to collage and others. No previous art practice is necessary. Expressive Arts will meet from noon to 1:30 p.m.

Also being offered is Writing For Recovery, using author Julia Cameron’s text “The Artist’s Way,” which uses writing as a means to explore one’s creativity and to use words to express emotions and experiences. No previous writing practice is necessary. Writing for Recovery will meet between 6 and 7:30 p.m.

The new drop-in group is a space for female-identified University of Maine at Farmington students to explore emotions and responses to recent or past experiences. Participants are welcome to attend as many or as few sessions as they feel comfortable with. This group will meet at 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays. For meeting location, call SAVES at 778-9522.
