FARMINGTON — Whether it’s cleaning, painting or serving lunch, students, faculty and staff at the University of Maine at Farmington will unite their efforts again this year for the Second Annual Month of Service.
The Kickoff Day on Saturday, Sept. 12, begins three Saturdays of community service provided by the UMF community.
With 13 opportunities for service this Saturday, individuals were given an opportunity to help with everything from cleaning the fairgrounds in preparation for the fair to painting playground tables at Academy Hill and Cushing schools. Other tasks at hand involve painting at the Wilton Food Closet, and harvesting and putting the Hope Community Garden to bed for the winter.
Volunteers will also help with abandoned horses at Double B Equine Rescue, help serve a monthly community lunch at Old South Church, or organize and clean the Children’s Room at Farmington Public Library.
An afternoon tea and games to interact with residents of Pierce House will be held and a variety of tasks will be undertaken at the Ski Museum of Maine, Farmington Baptist Church, LEAP and the Franklin County Animal Shelter.
Many of these will continue on the following two Saturdays along with other new projects and opportunities to volunteer.
Sponsored by the Center for Student Involvement and Student Life Department, the projects are followed by activities for volunteers at the Student Center.
