PORTLAND — Boréal Tordu is a Maine-based musical combo offering acoustic instrumental and vocal stylings rooted in the traditional music of Acadians, the original French-speaking settlers of Maine.

On Friday, Sept. 18, the band will perform at One Longfellow Square to promote the release of its third CD, “Les Chevaliers.”

Founded by Acadian cousins fiddler/accordionist Steve Muise and singer-songwriter and dobro player Rob Sylvain, Boréal Tordu also features Pip Walter on guitar and backup vocals, and Andy Buckland on upright bass.

The band will perform selections from the new record as well as traditional and original favorites, plus solo performances by Sylvain and Muise. Band members will be on hand before and after the show to sign copies of the new CD.

“Les Chevaliers” is Boréal Tordu’s third recording project and its first with the current lineup. The 12 tracks run the gamut of traditional Acadian, Cajun, Québécois, continental French, Maritime and Down East influences. Recorded by Marc Bartholomew at Acadia Recording Co. in Portland, “Les Chevaliers” is the band’s most polished effort to date, featuring its trademark three-part harmonies and musicianship. The disc comes with a booklet with photos and all of the lyrics, including English translations of French songs.

Tickets are $15 at the door, $12 in advance at all Bull Moose Music locations, online at www.onelongfellowsquare.com or by calling the box office at 761-1757. Doors open at 7 p.m. One Longfellow Square is at State and Congress streets. For parking, enter between Gorham Bike & Ski and Local 188 (off of Congress Street).
