Isabelle G. Fergola
1930 – 2009
RUMFORD — Isabelle G. Fergola, 78, of Sanders Street, Mexico, passed away on Friday, Sept. 11, at Rumford Community Home, with loving family at her side.
She was born in Rumford, Sept. 29, 1930, a daughter of Vincent and Margaret O. (Arsenault) Gallant.
She was educated in Rumford schools and was a graduate of Stephens High School, Class of 1948.
She married Anthony J. “Tony” Fergola on Sept. 27, 1952, and together they have celebrated 57 years of marriage and raised five children.
Prior to her marriage, she was employed with Oxford Paper Co. and later worked as assistant manager at the Rumford Branch of Franklin Savings Bank. She also donated her time at Meroby Elementary School and the Mexico Public Library, and many other charitable causes. After her retirement in 1990, she was a Literacy Volunteer.
She was awarded the volunteer of the year by the town of Mexico in 1999. She enjoyed bowling, playing cribbage, cross country skiing, knitting, traveling and reading. She attended all of her grandchildren’s sporting events and was their greatest fan. She was an avid fan of the Red Sox and the Mountain Valley Falcons.
Surviving are her husband of 57 years, Anthony J. Fergola; five children, David A. Fergola and wife, Maureen, of Rumford, Lisa Wallace and husband, John, of Rumford, Donna Farrell and husband, Michael, of Scarborough, Mary Ellen Tucker and husband, Donald, of Mexico and Robert Fergola and wife, Michelle, of Mexico; two sisters, Bernadette Marchetti of Jay and Pauline Allen of Mexico; 11 grandchildren, Corey Farrell and wife, Stephanie, Casey Farrell, Chad Wallace, Lindsey Wallace, Aaron Fergola, Craig Fergola, Brady Fergola, Katie Tucker and husband, Mike Hussey, Keri Tucker, Zachary Fergola and Travis Fergola; and five great-grandchildren, Keenan and Aubrey Farrell, Eli Pike, and Kiara and Latavian Bushman.
She was predeceased by her parents; and four brothers, Albert, Robert, Vincent and Philip Gallant.
