Just because craven politicians pass legislation legitimizing homosexuality doesn’t make it any less of an immoral perversion. Because someone possibly matured with a hormonal imbalance or dysfunctional family doesn’t make homosexuality any more acceptable than deadly violence from muscle-bound individuals reared in abusive environments.

With the ball rolling to overturn the Marriage Equality Act, expect the following: beguiling television ads featuring clean-cut “normal” citizens very unlike the tattooed, body-pierced, sub-group at April’s public hearing; increasing advancement of lies about the opposition hating homosexuals; media reports about the “nice” stuff gays are doing; appeals to feelings over morality, intellect and common sense; the misuse of the word “fairness”; unwitting reference to the Constitution; big money (which is fine) arriving from outside Maine; an increase in trumped up cases of “hate crimes.”

Will Maine citizens overturn LD 1020? The result comes to this: Do citizens who know the difference between moral and immoral behavior, as determined by God, outnumber those who do not? Considering my social encounters and reading, I think it’ll be close.

Whatever the results, they will reflect the continued abasement of the nation’s moral standards and ignorance of world history. If the referendum fails, some will call it progressive enlightenment. This would make them feel content for a time, until they begin their campaign to close churches for teaching truth.

I don’t think homosexuality is worse than cheating on a spouse, paying someone to take a college exam or leaving a dead mistress in a stream, but it’s still sinful.

William Van Tassel, Turner
