Which came first, the word dog or the word god? They are both man’s best friend.

In the letter to the editor from the Rev. Robert Roy (July 20), he wrote, “Marriage is a sacred institution established by God.” He continued that God created human anatomy for the purpose of generating children, which is a concept of all religions regarding marriage — procreation.

If we are to believe that, then why was Eve banished from the Garden of Eden when she seduced Adam? And why did Eve have sons and no mention of daughters?

The Bible is full of the concept of men ruling over women. If God did, indeed, write the Bible, as so many believe, then he is a bigot — one who detests and abuses women.

The Roman Catholic church firmly believes in that concept, as men are called to priesthood while Catholic women are called to serve and obey.

God is a supernatural being, the creator of all life forms. I believe it would demand equality for all, while men, with their limited intelligence, are still evolving.

Who knows, if women had written the Bible, perhaps the word god would have been “tac” (cat backwards) — a meow instead of a woof.

I would ask that voters please support the removal of religious interpretation of marriage (procreation) and bring forth equality for all by voting against repeal of same-sex marriage.
