Fernand Joseph ‘Bill’ Gagne

SIDNEY- Fernand Joseph “Bill” Gagne, 84, of Sidney, and formerly of Augusta, died Saturday, Sept. 12, at the V.A. Medical Center at Togus.

Bill was born in Lewiston, March 16, 1925, the son of Alfred and Marie Ann (Poulin) Gagne. He attended Cony High School, leaving to join the Army and fight in World War II. He was part of the First Infantry Division and received several decorations during the war, including the Bronze Star for meritorious service. When he returned, following the war, Bill worked at Vin Dunn Cement for a number of years and then at Coronco Corp., for over 27 years until his retirement in 1980. He also drove a school bus for the city of Augusta for many years. Bill was an accomplished carpenter, mechanic, plumber, electrician and woodcutter.

Bill was married to Madaline (Maxim) Gagne for 62 years until her death in 2006. Mr. Gagne was a member of American Legion Post 2 in Augusta. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by two sons, Terry Gagne and his wife, Karen (Hatch)
Gagne, of Sidney and Douglas W. Gagne and his wife, Diane, of Sidney;
four grandchildren, Christopher, Matthew, Sam and Nick Gagne; along
with several nieces and nephews.

Bill was predeceased by his wife; a sister, Theresa Gagne; and three brothers, Lionel, Thomas and Albert “Pete” Gagne.
