SUMNER — When the town voted not to have the Sumner’s 114 acres on Mollyocket Mountain surveyed and cleared for a possible windmill project at the annual town meeting in August, selectmen were left to decide what to do with the land.

Selectman Glen Hinkley said he thought there were several people interested in buying the land. He said he had heard that some wanted it to keep the windmill off the land and others wanted it to erect a windmill.

“There are abutters to the land who may be interested in the land, which is not very suitable for anything and is landlocked,” Selectman Mark Silber said.

There was no consensus on whether to put the land on the market or not as all selectmen were not in agreement to sell.

Ozzie Hart was interviewed for the interim position of animal control officer as the job was vacated by the recent death of Danny Paine.

Hart, who serves nearly 10 towns in the area, said he would be interested in the job as an interim. The board questioned whether or not he was related to Maurice Hart, who has had years of complaints against his barking dogs.

Hart said he was related but that he treated everyone the same. If the person was in violation, they would receive a notice and he would follow through.

When asked if he was comfortable going to court, Hart replied that he had taken some 1,500 cases to court and only lost two.

The board voted to appoint Hart as ACO for 90 days.

Road Commissioner Jim Keach said he had finished paving for the year, which included finishing Fields Hill Road which was started last year and part of Gammon Road.

Silber thanked Keach for his quick response to clearing roads after the tornado.
