Dear Sun Spots: There is a restaurant in Lewiston that I believe is called Chopsticks. What was there before? It was a steakhouse of some sort, and it had an old produce wagon for a salad bar. It was awesome food, and I was sad when it closed. Let me know if you are able to remember the name please. – Pat Malcuit, Strafford, N.H.

Answer: Thanks to the Sun Journal’s Heather McCarthy, Sun Spots believes you are referring to the Warehouse. Heather remembers the Warehouse as a “great place to eat, with wonderful tips with garlic and pan-toasted bread with garlic butter.” She says old framed newspaper pages lined the walls, and it was popular particularly in the 1970s and into the 1980s. That site was also a car dealership at one time, which ties in with the car remade into a salad bar that you remember.

Dear Sun Spots, In your Sept. 4 column, someone requested information about craft shows taking place in the Lewiston-Auburn area. I would like her and others to know that there will be a big craft/church fair happening at St. Dom’s gymnasium on Saturday, Oct. 17.

It is a project of Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish. It is our second annual Harvest Fair. The first one was a huge success, so we decided to use a larger, more open area for it, and St. Dom’s Gymnasium was chosen as a perfect spot for it. Table rental can be obtained for crafters and artisans by calling Derek Laliberte at 754-7719.

We have parishioners from three churches involved, and our advertising brought many people from out of the area to enjoy our fair last year. We give out free hourly drawings, as well as sell chances on a $l,000 first prize, two rockers as second prize, a jelly cabinet for third and a curio cabinet for fourth, plus many more prizes.

A café will be open for the duration of the fair hours, and homemade baked goods will be on sale, as will white elephant items, holiday items and more. We will culminate the day with a Harvest Fair Dinner prepared by the Knights of Columbus.

Tickets should be purchased early as the dinner was a sellout last year, and we ran out of the scrumptious fare, which included homemade pies for dessert. Aleta Rioux or Rita Melendy can answer any additional questions, and they may be reached by calling 966-3699 or 689-3941.

Also, do you know who might repair old ornate picture frames (gold) and also someone who repairs plaster statues? – Rita Melendy, Auburn

Answer: Sun Spots doesn’t know of any, but did find some brief instructions on plaster repair, if you want to tackle the job yourself, at http://www.ehow.com/how_8089_repair-plaster-statue.html. Here’s a link that might be helpful with your picture frames: http://www.refinishfurniture.com/picture_frame_restoration.htm. Hopefully some readers will know of someone local who does this professionally.
