Alison M. Dumont
1971 – 2009
LEWISTON — Alison M. Dumont, 38, a resident of Auburn, passed away Sunday, Sept. 13, at Central Maine Medical Center with her family by her side after an amazingly brave four-year battle against metastatic breast cancer. She is finally pain free.
She was born in Hartford, Conn., Aug. 11, 1971, the daughter of Myles Stanton and Mary Phillips. She attended Dixmont schools, and was a 1990 graduate of Hampden Academy. After relocating to Lewiston, she graduated from Bernard’s Beauty School in 1992, and had also attended L & A College.
She then became employed with Regis Hair Salon, where she worked for 10 years, and more recently was employed at Bates College as a chef’s assistant in the college dining hall. She loved being active at the Auburn YMCA, where she was a faithful volunteer and member.
Her passion was her son, Silas, now 5, and husband, Scott, her loving husband, soulmate, and best friend whom she married Aug. 16, 2003. She was a loving, caring, and patient mom, always putting the needs of her family first. She loved parties and the beach, as well as biking, photography and making jewelry.
She was a connector. People gravitated toward her. She would meet and make friends everywhere she went. She even made special ties at the Hope Lodge in Boston while there during her illness. She had a big heart and a strong-willed personality, and fought this battle every step of the way, from one surgery to the next. She never gave up. She astonished her medical team over and over again, proving against the odds her remarkable strength and determination.
In addition to her husband, Scott Dumont, and their son, Silas Dumont, both of Auburn, survivors include her maternal grandmother, Eugenie Phillips of Pittsfield, Mass.; her mother, Mary Phillips and stepfather, Thornton Merriam, both of Hampden; her sisters, Jeannie Hopkins and husband, Fred, of Plymouth, Christine Bowman and Bridget Stanton, both of Dixmont; her beloved in-laws, Paul and Elaine Dumont of Lewiston; a special sister-in-law, Rhonda Bates and husband, Rodney, of Auburn; and five nieces and nephews, Sarah Andre, Brittany Hopkins, and Nicholas Bowman, as well as Abigayle and Gavin Bates.
She was predeceased by her father, Myles Stanton.
The family would like to thank some very special people, the caring staff on M1 who treated Alison like family, Dr. Erickson and everyone in her office, Dr. Duval and his office. Christine Schwartz and everyone at Bates College Dining Services, including students, faculty, and staff. Special thanks also to Walmart Pharmacy, and the Auburn YMCA, and everyone who donated, baked, or attended any of the benefits for Alison, especially the “Fudge Lady,” Cheryl Sargent.
