AUBURN — Police made one arrest and could likely make more later this week following a weekend incident behind the Roak Block Development building on Main Street that left at least six cars vandalized.

Noah D. Farrington, 25, of 217 Main St. No. 4, Biddeford, was arrested early Sunday morning following the 1:30 a.m. incident. Auburn police Sgt. Gary Boulet said that police will be conducting two more interviews later this week, and that more arrests could follow.

According to the police report, Farrington — and possibly others — damaged the windshields of six cars parked behind the Roak Block Development building. Boulet added that the hoods of some cars were also damaged when vandals jumped on them to kick in windshields. Damage to each car was estimated at $500, with a total of $2,500 between the six.

“There’s always little things, like graffiti, but not anything like smashed windows,” Boulet said. “We’ve been patrolling more than ever along the Riverwalk. We’ve really stepped up patrols.”

Boulet said this is the first major incident to occur along the Riverwalk in the past several months. But one Roak Block resident called on the police to do more about vandalism both behind Roak Block and at the city’s parking garage across the street.

The resident, who asked not to be identified, said that several of his neighbors are scared about the recent activity in the neighborhood. The man contended that part of the problem is people leaving the Main Street bars highly intoxicated.

“It would just help if the police would recognize that there are more than 72 people in this building and they’re all scared,” the man said.
