Auburn Water and Sewer Districts Director Earle Tarr will seek estimates on painting Auburn’s 482 fire hydrants.

District trustees Wednesday gave Tarr permission to seek cost estimates and check with Welfare Director Deborah Gimmig to determine if citizens participating in the work-for-welfare program could do the work.

Tarr told Water District trustees his staff has not had time to tackle the job.

“The way it is now the work just isn’t getting done.” Tarr said. The hydrants were sandblasted last year and should be painted with wire brushes before long.
