TURNER — The fall line up of academic classes at MSAD 52 Adult and Community Education includes a wide variety of subjects.

Quickbooks is intended for
personal and small business accounting. The course begins Wednesday,
Sept. 16 and begins with business accounting basics and then continues
as students learn key concepts through hands-on learning and practice.
No previous accounting or computer experience is necessary.

Accounting starts Thursday, Sept. 17 and is open to all students
with or without prior accounting knowledge. Students will use journals
to complete transactions. Some of the topics will include analyzing
time cards, calculating Social Security and Medicare taxes and
preparing payroll records.

Plato classes begin Tuesday, Sept. 22. The Plato Learning Lab is a
self-study computer based program that lets participants work at their
own pace to complete credit courses toward a diploma or enhance skills
for post-secondary study. Courses offered include math, algebra,
sciences, social studies and English.

Introduction to Psychology begins Thursday, Sept. 24. Topics will
include a brief history of psychology, the learning processes, memory,
behavior, perception, motivation, personality and stress.

Writing for College is ideal for individuals thinking about entering
college or returning to college. The course starts Thursday, Sept. 24
and offers students a framework for understanding the expectations of a
college student, with a focus on writing skills.

Human biology provides an anatomical and physiological overview of
human structure and function. Beginning Thursday, Sept. 24, the class
is perfect for the college bound student going into the health field. A
weekend or holiday field trip to the University of New England will be
required.

Banned Books starts Monday, Sept. 28 and encourages students to
consider why books are banned or challenged by reading one such novel,
participating in discussion groups and completing a final project.

Consumer Finance will help students track and control money. In this
class beginning Tuesday, Sept. 29, students will learn to budget for
goals, how to manage a checking account, track credit balances and
understand the fine print in financial statements.

Pre-Algebra and Algebra I will cover the basics of high school
diploma credit. The course starts Tuesday, Sept. 29 and will prepare
students to tackle Algebra I (part 2) and Algebra II.

Creative Writing: Myths and Legends will explore tales from around
the world. Writers of all abilities are encouraged to attend the class
beginning Tuesday, Sept. 29.

College Ready – Refresher Math starts Tuesday, Sept. 29. The course will prepare students for college work and taking the Accuplacer. Students must be at high school level math readiness.

Two levels of French are being offered with two segments of each.
The first advanced class starts Monday, Sept. 21 and intermediate class
begins Thursday, Sept. 24. Learn the basics of Spanish with Beginner
Session 1 starting Wednesday, Sept. 23. Advanced Spanish begins
Tuesday, Sept. 22.

Developmental Life Skills provides beginning instruction in reading
and following recipes, understanding nutritional facts as well as
planning and preparing healthy meals. Also provides basic learning in
reading, writing and math. The class is ongoing and runs through June.

In addition to academic classes, MSAD 52 Adult Education offers
classes in computer, crafts, health and wellness, enrichment and
courses to jump start a career.
