FARMINGTON — Mt. Blue High School students were evacuated from the school about 20 minutes before release time Wednesday after a bomb threat was found in a bathroom, school resource officer Bridgette Gilbert said.

The message was brought to authorities’ attention at about 1:40 p.m. and the superintendent was called, she said.

Students were evacuated to designated areas such as the athletic fields outside the school until dismissal time at about 2 p.m., Gilbert said.

The Maine State Police bomb-detecting dogs and handlers were called in to search the building but found nothing, she said.

Gilbert, also a Farmington police officer, and Farmington police Lt. Jack Peck and Detective Marc Bowering were investigating.

“We have some leads we are following up on,” Gilbert said.

All after-school activities were canceled.
