HARRISON — Results of tests on Harrison Elementary School water are expected Friday, Facilities Manager David Marshall said.

Goodwin Well & Water Inc. of Turner, which drilled the 400-foot well in the 1990s, was at the school Tuesday to pull out a 100-foot section of well pipe, Marshall said.

“I wish I could say everything was perfect but it’s never that simple,” he said Wednesday.

Students at the Harrison Elementary School have been drinking bottled water as a precaution since the start of school after coliform bacteria was found in four of five water samples tested on Aug. 24. Four samples had been taken on Aug. 11 at the school and they all came back negative, Marshall said.

The bottled water was donated by Poland Spring Water Co.

Marshall said Maine Drinking Water Program officials said the water could be ingested, but because of the high count of coliform, the state required the public be informed.

“They will tell us what to do, if its (contaminant) is in the well or internal plumbing,” Marshall said. “It’s inconvenient but they (the school) has plenty of Poland Spring water.”
