Maurice N. Provencher
1930 – 2009
LEWISTON — Maurice N. Provencher, 78, of Lucille Street, New Auburn, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 15, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center.
He was born in Lewiston, Oct. 30, 1930, the son of the late Pierre and Lydia Leblanc Provencher. He was educated in Lewiston schools and proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and was the recipient of the Korean Service Medal and the United Nations Medal. He was employed for 37 years at Bates Manufacturing Co., retiring as a supervisor.
He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish, attending St. Louis Church and Sacred Heart Church. He was a life member of the American Legion Post 153 of New Auburn and enjoyed playing cribbage there. He was a caring and loving husband and father who always placed his family’s needs before his. He was a hard worker and did all his own renovations and repair projects around the house.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Michelena Yurchuk of Auburn; two daughters, Joanne Eastburn and husband, Stephen, of Beverly, Mass., and Diane Latham and husband, Dan, of Fremont, N.H.; two sons, Dana Kempton and wife, Mary, of Skowhegan and Peter Provencher and wife, Linda, of Lewiston; eight grandchildren, Julie and Beth Kempton, Matthew Eastburn, Ryan and Katie Latham, Heidi, Amanda and Philip Provencher.
