FARMINGTON – Auburn Recreation Department kicked off the new football season with tough openers against Mt. Blue Youth Football. This is the first season for Auburn Rec in the rugged Sandy Valley Youth Football League.
In the opener, the Auburn Blue Grade 3-4 team lost a tough defensive battle to the Mt. Blue Bobcats, 6-0. Trevor Gordon had the lone touchdown for the Bobcats. Max Bell and Alex Merchant led a fine defensive effort for Auburn Blue.
Mt. Blue Lynx knocked off Auburn Yellow, 32-0, in another Grade 3-4 tussle. Ben Christopher had two touchdowns for Mt. Blue, while C.J. Bullen, Ethan Andrews and Kyle Heikkinen rounded out the scoring. Alic Shorey was the leading ground gainer for Auburn Yellow.
In the first game of the Grade 5-6 division, the Mt. Blue Giants defeated Auburn Red, 21-0. Dominic Ellis led the way for the Giants with teammates Nate Everett and Alex Gilbert also chipping in touchdowns. Gage Dalphonse led Auburn Red on the ground, while Dillon Hummes and Nate Bullock bolstered the Auburn Red defense.
Mt. Blue Patriots defeated Auburn White, 30-7, in the final game of the dat. Christian Whitney, Ryan Pratt and Jack Meader scored touchdowns for Mt. Blue. Noah Yarnevich hit C.J. Jipson with two long passes, and Jipson scored the lone Auburn touchdown on a 27-yard run. Jack Coyne and Drew Lashua led the Auburn White defense.
