BUCKFIELD — The Oddfellow Theater has scaled back plans for this weekend’s 24-hour charity show.
Poor ticket sales forced theater owner Michael Miclon to make the announcement late Wednesday after talking with performers, some of whom planned to travel from outside the Northeast to perform for free.
“It’s now going to be a really long ‘Early Evening Show,'” Miclon said, referring to his popular variety show.
More than 40 acts were poised to perform on the small, rural stage beginning Saturday evening. The goal was to raise at least $7,000 to benefit Camp Sunshine, a Casco retreat for children with life-threatening illnesses and their families.
All ticket sales from the scaled-back show will still go to the camp, Miclon said. Tickets for the 24-hour event had ranged from $10 to $50. The scaled-back show will be offered at regular “Early Evening Show” prices: $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and $6 for children 12 and under.
The people who attend will still get a hefty show, featuring Matt and Jason Tardy, Fritz Grobe, comedian Brent McCoy, former Big Apple Circus clown Michael Lane Trautman, Stacy Carolan of Foreshadow and storyteller Jackson Gillman.
“The Early Evening Show” band will perform and Miclon will host.
Though saddened by the announcement, Miclon called the change a postponement rather than a cancellation of the 24-hour charity event.
He hopes to make it happen at a later date.
“It’s about raising the most money we can for Camp Sunshine,” he said.
