WOODSTOCK — After meeting with officials from the Federal Emergency Management Agency last week, Town Manager Vern Maxfield told selectmen Tuesday he expects the town to be reimbursed for road repairs done earlier this summer.
“I met with FEMA last week and they indicated that we will get all or most of the money back we spent repairing and upgrading roads that were damaged by heavy rains earlier this summer,” Maxfield said. “We spent a total of between $80,000 and $100,000 to rebuild areas that were washed out and impassable.”
“Most of the money was used to repair the Redding Road,” Maxfield said. “And because we not only repaired the road but improved it beyond the condition it was in before the storms hit, they are quite confident we will get all our funds back. We should know soon what their final decision will be.”
In other business, Maxfield announced he is searching for candidates interested in taking over the position of animal control officer for the town.
The need for someone to fill the position comes after the recent death of longtime officer Dannie Paine of West Paris.
During the interim, Ozzie Hart of Bethel is filling in.
“Ozzie can become a candidate if he wants, and I have been approached by one other person who is interested, but I feel we should continue to leave the job open for now and see if there are others who would like to apply,” Maxfield said.
The board agreed.
