Betty Ann Poliquin
1934 – 2009
LEWISTON — Betty Ann Poliquin, 75, of Lewiston, died Saturday, Sept. 12, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center.
She was born in Colebrook, N.H., Jan. 24, 1934, the daughter of Sherburne and Maud Ramsay. Betty was the third of six children. She graduated from Berlin High School in Berlin, N.H., in 1952.
On Feb. 14, 1953, at St. Kieran’s Church of Berlin, she married Robert Edward Poliquin, also from Berlin, N.H. As the wife of a career Marine, she traveled and lived throughout the United States, including North Carolina and Hawaii. In 1968, she moved to Lewiston with her husband and three children.
Shortly after she arrived in Lewiston, she became actively employed in the local community beginning her career at Marcotte Nursing Home as a staffing coordinator. She continued to work in the health and medical field until she was 63, and chose to retire in 1997.
From 1970 through to 1975, she was actively engaged in supporting the L&A Youth Hockey Association, the Holy Family Booster Club, the Police Athletic League and the Lewiston High School Parent Teacher’s Association.
She found true joy happiness walking the beaches of Maine while spending time with her two sisters, Patsy and Barbara.
She was a devoted wife and mother. All she ever wanted was to cook for her family and for “everyone to be happy.” She had lived in Lewiston for the last 41 years.
She is survived by her husband, Robert E. Poliquin, USMC retired of Lewiston; her daughter, Deborah David, a preschool teacher in Otisfield, and her husband, Normand; her elder son, Dr. Robert E. Poliquin Jr. and his wife, Cheryl, of Fort Mill, S.C.; her younger son, Boots Poliquin, a U.S. Foreign Affairs Officer, and his wife, Yana, of Bethesda, Md.; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren; her two sisters, Pasty Pilgrim and Barbara Koon, both of New Hampshire; and one brother, Gordon Ramsay, of North Carolina.
