Catherine Bergeron, an 85-year-old resident of Lewiston, recently donated 50 pairs of mittens which
she knitted for Androscoggin Head Start and Child Care. Bergeron
decided to donate her time after her daughter, Rita Conner, a member of
the Androscoggin Head Start and Child Care board of directors,
told her about the children in Head Start’s programs, and how many do
not have proper winter clothing. Knitting since age 11, she also knits for her 18
grandchildren, 31 great-grand children, her first great-great
grandchild and sometimes for her own seven children. She enjoys
knitting, sewing and playing cards and bingo with her friends and
siblings. Bergeron is pictured with the mittens
she knitted. For more information about Androscoggin Head Start and Child Care, call 795-4040 or visit www.AndroKids.com.
