Bowdoin 5, Bates 0
BRUNSWICK — Sophomore Ella Curren collected her first career hat trick, sparking a four-goal second-half outburst to lead Bowdoin to a 5-0 victory over Bates in college field hockey action Saturday.
The Polar Bears (2-1) carried a one-goal advantage into intermission on a Shavonne Lord put-back in the 18th minute.
Despite an 18-0 shot advantage in the opening period, Bates netminder Katie McEnroe stood tall with eight saves to keep the Bobcats (0-3) in contention.
Men’s soccer
Bowdoin 4, Bates 0
BRUNSWICK — Eddie Jones scored a pair of goals to lead Bowdoin to a 4-0 triumph over Bates in men’s soccer action Saturday afternoon.
Jones got the Polar Bears (2-1) on the board with some nifty footwork just 12 minutes into the game. A deflection off of Bates goaltender Greg Watts came to the foot of Jones, who buried the game’s first tally.
Watts ended with five saves for the Bobcats (0-2), while Dan Hicks earned his first shutout with three saves for Bowdoin.
CMCC 4, NMCC 2
PRESQUE ISLE — Shane Hurtle notched a hat trick to lead Central Maine Community College to a 4-2 victory over Northern Maine Community College in men’s soccer action Saturday.
The Mustangs (3-1) took a 2-1 lead at the break. Erik Wright was superb on defense for Central Maine, keeping the Falcons (3-1) from overtaking the Mustangs at any point.
Goalie Matt Tarr made 10 saves for Northern Maine, while goalie Jon Caron prevented 12 shots to earn the win in net for Central Maine.
