Odile Cyr Mower

1917 – 2009

AUBURN — Odile Cyr Mower, 92, a resident of Montello Heights Retirement Community in Lewiston, died peacefully on Saturday, Sept. 19, at the Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice in Auburn.

Odile was born Jan. 22, 1917, at St. David, the daughter of Xavier and Olive Cyr. She attended schools in St. David, and relocated to Lewiston in 1935. Prior to her marriage to Thomas O. Mower Jr. in 1936, she was employed at Bates Manufacturing  Co.

In 1951, Odile started the first hot lunch program in Lewiston at Jordan School, and then implemented the lunch program at Farwell School.

Odile enjoyed her home and a quiet life. She will be remembered as a kind, respected and dignified lady.

She is survived by a daughter, Carlene Maloney and husband, Joseph, of Auburn; two sons, Thomas Mower III and wife, Brenda, of Auburn, and John Mower of Waterville; five grandsons, Daniel Maloney, James Maloney, Dean Mower, Thomas Mower IV and Timothy Mower; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Louise Cyr Bouchard, of Van Buren.

Besides her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a son, James; a sister, Priscilla Cyr Allen; brothers, Camille, Alyre, Adrien and Jacques; and three siblings who died in infancy.
