AUBURN — The Marine Corps League Central Maine Detachment Commandant Richard McGuinness presented a $500 scholarship to Daniel Poulin who recently became an Eagle Scout.

During his 11 years in scouting, Poulin has done many things for veterans. Every Veteran’s Day he is involved in a parade and spends time at veterans’ functions. During Christmas, the scouts, with their parents, made wreaths and canes out of beads. More than 200 were brought to Togus and nursing homes. During the visits, Poulin, with his father, Ronald Poulin, and Post 153 Scout representative Raymond Lemieux, went to veterans’ rooms to present the gifts and a small American flag.

Poulin was involved in a large monument being erected at Raymond Park in New Auburn for veterans. For his Eagle Scout Award project, he chose the Briggs Cemetery on Turner Street. The cemetery was in bad condition, but now has been restored and the veterans buried there have flags by their stones.

Poulin is attending the University of Maine at Farmington.
