Laura C. Young

1946 – 2009

AUBURN – Laura Carol Young, 63, of 155 Tiger Hill Rd., Poland, died peacefully in her sleep Saturday, Sept. 19, at the Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice.

Laura was born in Lewiston, Feb. 17, 1946, a daughter of the late Dana and Doris Woodsome Hodgkin. She graduated from Edward Little High School in the class of 1964. Laura was a member of the Southern Maine Women’s Golf Association and Maine State Women’s Golf Association.

She enjoyed horseback riding, waterskiing, reading, baking, golfing, gardening, sewing, making crafts, giving gifts, being outdoors and having fun. Laura loved all animals, and feeding the birds around her home. She loved spending time with family and friends, helping others, and giving her grandchildren rides on the golf cart and her horse.

Laura will be remembered for the many different jobs and hobbies she had over the years, championship stockcar driver, riding in horse shows, working in hay fields, in apple orchards, at a cannery and as a waitress. She also ran a blueberry crew, did woodworking, coached and played softball and most recently was the manager of the Poland Spring Resort Golf Pro Shop. She was the Summit Golf Course Women’s Club Champion for 2 years, and the Poland Spring Country Club Women’s Club Champion for 15 years. Laura was a jack-of-all-trades and master of all as well.

She is survived by her husband, Irving V. Young, of Poland, whom she married Dec. 22, 1984, and had known since she was 13 years old; her daughters, Stephanie Dana Nolin and husband, Jim, of Greene, Ann Loubeth Ryan and husband, Mike, of Gray; her stepdaughters, Deborah Ann Danforth of Auburn and Dale Lynn Young of Shelton, Wash.; her grandchildren, Kristina Lahey, Mikaela Ryan, Michael Ryan Jr., and Kelsey Danforth; a great-granddaughter, Haylee Lahey-Gailloux; her sisters, Jane Whalen and Betty Johnson, both of Poland; and her brother, Eddie ( Dana ) Hodgkin of Minot; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her sisters, Juanita Stoesser and Ruth Polley; and her brother, Bob Hodgkin.

The family thanks Cyndi Robbins of Poland Spring; and Laura’s many wonderful friends who have all showed such support and love for her.
