We can affect the world we live in, if we just believe in what we’re trying to do.

“You have proven that individuals can make a difference, and if each of us does our bit, collectively we will make a major contribution,” Jeremy Gilly, founder of “Peace One Day” announced to millions of people. In 1999, Gilly brought this idea to the people of the world.

Gilly’s purpose is to have one day around the world, every year, when there is no violence all over the world. I’m sure you are thinking, yeah, that’s impossible. Nothing is impossible. If every person in this world did their part to have “Peace On Day, ” we the people could make this happen.

Many countries have a made a commitment to have a day of peace. The United States agreed in 2001, but most people aren’t aware of this day. I encourage everyone to make a commitment to make Sept. 21 a Peace One Day.

We can start in our communities and go from there. Tripp Middle School in Turner is making a commitment. Ms. Judith Reed’s social studies classes have been getting the word out by making locker tags, putting signs around the school and informing parents. We’ve also invited the rest of the school to participate.

All of us need to help achieve this goal by respecting others and stopping all violence on Sept. 21. Even if few people find out about it, we can still make a difference.
