Boston police officials reported Monday night that the investigation into an August shooting that claimed a Lewiston woman’s life and critically injured her boyfriend is still ongoing. At the time, police described the incident as a drug deal gone wrong.

“It looks like this is an active and ongoing investigation and no arrests have been made yet,” said David Estrada, a spokesman for the Boston Police Department.

Erica Field, 29, was shot and killed Aug. 25 in the Boston neighborhood of Dorchester. Her boyfriend, 32-year-old Shameek “Jo Jo” Garcia, was shot several times — including at least once shot to the head. Just days after the shooting, Garcia was listed in critical condition at Boston Medical Center, but an update on his condition was not available as of Monday. According to a hospital spokeswoman, the facility does not release the condition of patients who were the victims of violent crimes.

Field was found dead late Aug. 25 in a rental car parked on Norwell Street in Dorchester. Earlier reports indicated that Field was sitting in the driver’s seat and that Garcia was sitting next to her in the front passenger’s seat.

Friends in Lewiston told the Sun Journal that Field and Garcia had been living together in an apartment on Davis Street, near Bates College. Early on, investigators from Boston expanded their inquiry to Maine. They were joined by Lewiston police and agents from the Central Maine Violent Crimes Task Force in their effort to speak with potential witnesses in Lewiston and surrounding towns, as well as search for a connection between Dorchester and this area.

Investigators were also exploring the possibility that the gun used in the shootings may have come from Maine.
